Hardy Heron, Ubuntu 8.04 LTS, was released 24 April 2008. It was Canonical's eighth Ubuntu release and the second Long Term Support (LTS) release. It was the first version of Ubuntu to include the Wubi installer on it's Live CD. Wubi allows the user to install Ubuntu on a single file on a Windows hard drive without having to repartition the disk. Desktop is supported until April 2011, server until April 2013. Ubuntu 8.04 LTS is built on the Linux kernel 2.6.24.

Hardy Heron includes, with other programs, GIMP 2.4, GNOME 2.22, Mozilla Firefox 3.0 beta, OpenOffice.org 2.4, and Pidgin 2.4.
